What is the price of charcoal per ton? It is the question we hear most from importers, wholesalers and restaurant suppliers. The honest answer is that there is no single price: the cost per ton depends on the type of charcoal, its quality, the packing, the volume and where it is delivered. This article explains what drives charcoal prices, why offers from different suppliers vary so much, and how to get an accurate, up-to-date quotation directly from the factory.
- There is no single charcoal price; type, quality, packing, volume and Incoterm all change the price per ton.
- Coconut shisha charcoal is usually the most expensive, followed by lump charcoal and hexagonal briquettes, then firewood.
- Small retail packs and private label add to the cost per ton; full containers and repeat orders lower it.
- A price far below the market usually means unscreened charcoal, higher moisture or short weight.
- For an accurate quote, send the factory the type, quantity, packing and delivery point.
Why there is no single charcoal price
Charcoal is not one commodity. A ton of coconut shisha cubes packed in small retail boxes and a ton of lump charcoal in bulk bags are entirely different products. Even within one type, price changes with screening, moisture, piece size and packing. A price published without specifications cannot be compared with anything.
6 factors that set the price per ton
| Factor | Effect on price |
|---|---|
| Type and raw material | Compressed coconut charcoal is usually highest, then lump charcoal and briquettes, then firewood |
| Quality | Screening, low moisture and ash and uniform size add value |
| Packing | Small boxes and private label cost more than cartons and large bags |
| Volume | Full containers and repeat orders get a better price |
| Incoterm | EXW is lowest; FOB and CIF include transport, freight and insurance |
| Season and raw material | Demand peaks in BBQ and heating seasons, and raw material supply varies |

How charcoal types compare on price
- Coconut shisha charcoal: usually the highest price per ton, as raw material, processing and small retail packs cost more; price depends on the pack, from 250 g boxes to 10 kg cartons.
- Lump charcoal (orange wood, casuarina, mixed): varies with the wood; the mixed grade is usually the most economical.
- Hexagonal briquettes: priced by carton size; larger cartons cost less per ton.
- Split firewood: the lowest price per ton in our range.
